Christmas at Waddesdon Manor

It has become something of a traditional at The Magical Christmas Wreath Company that we pop across to Waddesdon Manor for our first Christmas lunch each year. It enables us to take a breath before the super busy Christmas rush lands at our door. They also do a spiffing Christmas pudding and brandy butter ice cream that I spend all year dreaming about. For those that can't quite cope with turkey and all the trimmings just yet can grab a bite or a coffee at the outdoor pavilion or the stables.

Light artist Bruce Munro has returned to Waddesdon Manor this year with six new large scale outdoor light installations to add a little Christmas magic to the grounds once the winter sun goes down.

The Harrods Christmas Express!

Once again you lucky people get to join in the second leg of our annual Christmas shopping tour in central London for 2013.
I received a call last week from my lovely friends over at Harrods inviting me to pop along and preview their absolutely gorgeous new Christmas window displays. The length of the infamous store front in Knightsbridge has been transformed into the ultimate homage to the luxurious golden age of steam travel in full-on, glam, Orient Express style!

The Harrods midnight Christmas window fairies have spent the year dreaming up the most beautiful creations and took three weeks installing them to the peak of perfection before the grand unveiling.

The adventure begins with a full size, gleaming silver steam engine that pulls the most fabulous carriages that wrap around the store. So jump aboard with me now and be part of the Harrods Christmas Express fantasy as we take in their uber glamorous windows.

Each carriage contains a different scene with real time magical landscapes whizzing past the windows in the background. Why not order a cocktail in the glittering piano bar or tea and macarons in the chic on-board cafe. Those of you who fancy something a little more formal can sit down at a glitzy dinner party car. There is also some seriously sexy luggage complete with dishy porters to swoon over as you sashay along the steam train going from car to car.

We have been back twice to see the windows on our travels and each time I have seen something more gorgeous to covet. I practically finished my Christmas shopping list by the second lap round. Anyway, enough of this chitter-chatter, the handsome porter is calling me aboard as we depart to another destination on the Magical Christmas Wreath Company Shopping Tour 2013......

......All aboard !

Christmas Gifting & Giving at Selfridges

Tomorrow marks the official date for turning on the Christmas lights across London's west end. This gives me permission to lift my self-imposed festive silence and to also launch the shopping season here at The Magical Christmas Wreath Company with our infamous Christmas shopping tours!

All the big department stores here in London now have their festive shops open, laden with all manner of Christmas goodies and Selfridges was one of the first way back in October! So now is the ideal time to visit and to take in the magical Christmas windows they have on display.

Food Specialists Bompas & Parr have created an edible Christmas window installation representing London's lost and unbuilt architecture. Made entirely of gingerbread, it also comes complete with a River Thames made of Golden Syrup!

This years windows also feature a giant Charlotte Olympia gold Kitty Slipper with glowing eyes, an enormous Saint Laurent monogram gold clutch complete with swinging tassel and a huge Selfridges snow globe along with a host of other giant sized Christmas gifts to help you start your list.

The Selfridges London windows are a celebration of not only all things gifting but also of all things giving this festive season.

Since she founded the charity in 1996, founder Camila Batmanghelidjh, has been reaching out to young people with unrelenting love and positivity and empowering vulnerable children to help them achieve their full potential.

In addition to the incredible work 'Kids Company' do throughout the year, Camila's team give over 4000 young people who live in challenging or stressful environments, the opportunity to enjoy Christmas day with them at one of their centres where they can relax, play and ultimately just be children.
You can watch Camila's Christmas appeal here.

If you feel you can help in any way this Christmas with presents or a donation, so that Kids company can make that difference you can do it via their Facebook page or their Website or by asking for more information when you visit Selfridges this Christmas.

A taste of Autumn

Whilst the English garden may be gracefully receding in preparation for it's winter slumber, the stunning shades of Autumn were calling our names this weekend. So we pulled on our boots, wrapped up all toasty and headed out into the crisp November air.

Nestled in the heart of the Surrey Hills is Denbies, England's largest wine Estate, the perfect destination for us to catch the turning fiery leaves of Autumn on it's south facing slopes.

The 265 acres of vineyard at Denbies produces 10% of the wine made in the UK, growing a large variety of grape including Seyval Blanc, Bacchus, Ortega, Chardonnay, Reichensteiner and Pinot Noir. Their sparkling wine is made in the traditional 'Champagne' method and with wine tasting on offer we jumped at the chance to quaff some local fayre in the afternoon.

Apologies for the lack of photographs of the tasting session, its hard to take pictures  when you have a glass of wine in each hand!

Wherever you are this weekend, find the time to sit back and enjoy the beautiful colours of Autumn.

Bottoms up!
